Should I convert H264 to ProRes?

Hi,

Newbie here.I'm shooting a promo on a Canon 6D (h264). I'm supposed to send it to a colourist to do some color grading.

My question is: Should I convert the footage to ProRes?

In my understanding, the h264 footage will not be improved if transcoded to ProRes, so why bother?

Is it just for color grading purpose?

Also, if I indeed need to convert the footage to ProRes, how would I go about that since I'm editing on a PC?

AVCHD in Watch Folder

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to solve a workflow problem that I have with AVCHD files.  As many of you know, avchd files on a mac get put into one "folder" called AVCHD.  I shoot on 3 cameras and often have 15+ clips on each camera per shoot.  I would like to transcode these files into ProRes Proxy files for ease of editing and file management (it is becoming a huge pain to have tons of files labeled "AVCHD."  So I see that I can drop the AVCHD file into Media Encoder and it will queue all of the separate clips which is great. However, when I set up a Watch Folder, it will pick up Mp4's I drop in, but doesn't respond to the AVCHD file.  Is there a way to do this?  I would love to be able to drop my cards into the folders and have them ready the next morning as individual prores files.  Working on CC 2018.  Thanks!

Adobe Media Encoder CC 2018 won't open.

I use the search thing in the Start menu to open Adobe Media Encoder, but nothing happens. The splash screen doesn't appear, or anything. I tried exporting my After Effects file to MP4 by adding it to Media Encoder Queue, but nothing appears. I even searched for the application launcher in the Program Files Adobe folder. That didn't work.

I tried uninstalling and installing the latest version, which is 12.0. That didn't work.

I tried running as administrator. That didn't work.

I tried running it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8 and 7. That didn't work.

I tried creating a Presets folder in Documents>Adobe>Adobe Media Encoder>12.0. That didn't work.

I'm at the end of my rope here. I'm just trying to export my After Effects composition, but nothing's working. I'm currently trying to use Dynamic Link with Premiere Pro, but it shows nothing. I know it takes time to render, but my whole composition looks black in Premiere Pro. Does anyone know of a way to help me get Media Encoder working, or a workaround to this issue?

Adobe Media Encoder Renders older versions of Ae and Pr Projects

I've had this issue for several years now, presumably starting with some version of CC. I make some changes to a comp or sequence, save it, even close the app. I fire up AME, choose the recently edited Comp (Ae) or Sequence (Pr), and get a previously saved version of what I queued! My workaround for this for a while was to pull up Task Manager, and End task for dynamiclinkmanager.exe (or something like that). I no longer see this process in Task manager (like ver). So they must have replaced it with some equivalent? If there IS one, presumably ending it will perform the same workaround? This is infuriating having to babysit my renders, especially very long ones that need to run overnight. Also, clearing my cache 9at least via AME) did not solve the issue? Do I need to keep a shortcut to my Media Cache folder and keep emptying it after every change I make? Ridiculous...

Media encoder issues

Hi All creative peeps.

I have a question. I'm doing a template in AE where 3 pictures are dynamic and text are updated from an external .json file.

So the idea is.. that you can upload 3 pictures and write 3 text fields from a website. The pictures and ,json file will be replaced with the new content. So far it all works!

I've made a watchfolder in Media Encoder and I made an automator script to make a copy of the .aep file and send it to the watchfolder. But when it begins to render....the pictures are fine but the text hasen´t update. When I open it in After effects it all looks good and when I render in Render Queue it is fine!

Any ideas or advice? Are there issues with AME?

MPG at 59.94

Hello -

Doesn't Media Encoder have a preset or the functionallity to make a 1280x720p  .mpg at 59.94?

It baffles me, or I'm just doing it wrong, that I can export a 1280x720 .mpg at 59.94 from Premiere but not in Media Encoder as a preset for a watch folder...

Any clues?

We are using the Adobe full suite, Version 12.0.1 Windows 10

Thanks!

QUVIS, the supplier of the AME Wraptor Plugin writes - no comment:

"Sorry you are having issues with this package.

There is a thread control issue with this build, which can impact systems supporting more than 8 threads, causing a lockup as you describe.

We have been unable to get Adobe to move ahead on their commitments for this product once they had distribution rights to the initial release, and they also refuse to remove the current version from their CC distribution, leaving us in quite a quandary

We are currently building an update utility which will allow CC users to update this plug-in independent of Adobe.  It should be available in April 2018.

In the meantime, if you can run the application on a 4 core system, or limit thread support in MacOS to 8 or less, you should be able to use the package as it is.

Also note that GDC made a change in their theatrical cinema player software in 2016 which broke interoperability with this build.   All other cinema players (Christie, Barco, Dolby, Sony, etc.) continue to work fine.

Wraptor Pro 3.2 and the very speedy Wraptor Pro 4 are also being released next month.

Sincerely,

Kenbe@Quvis.com"

encoder issue

i have been working on a project for a month or two and have encountered an issue when rendering with encoder and have no clue how to fix it, here's some background info:

i organize my files and assets before the project starts so nothing moves etc, in after effects all files are intact and 'functioning' however, when i go to render, encoder thinks one of my video files are missing, i am completely stumped on how to fix it, I've tried re-importing the video, renaming a clone of the file and importing it... I'm hoping someone has an idea of how to fix it, or has encountered it before....

Thank you in advance !

Quicktime Export options are missing (only in AME)

Hey,

I already searched around for a while and also found another thread in this board, as well some info in the official documentation, saying that AME only installs certain export options, if it's not installed within the proper package of applications (like premiere or after effects).

Well, I did install it as part of the Master Collection, and also have both Premiere and AFX up and running.

The Initial install was a horrible procedure, since there was still some photoshop cs6 beta file lurking around and just wouldnt leave, even with the CS cleaner tool.

When I finally managed to install CS6, everything worked fine, except one major flaw.. When I export a file from premiere as a quicktime, everyhting works as it should. But when I hit "send to AME", the quicktime preset just doesnt make it's way over to the media encoder, but I have only h264 and 4 other formats to choose from. Just no QT available. (I'm on a mac).

I already tried installing the entire package over the original installation, but it didnt help. I also have CS6 installed on my macbook, where everything works perfectly fine. I compared the media encoder folder on both machines and it's identical in size. In the library I wasn't able to find any media encoder related files.

Please, does anyone have any Idea how to get QT export in ame up and running again without going through a complete cleansing of my system and reinstall the whole package? I'm in the middle of a project now and would really like to have it working.

(it worked before in cs5, btw)

Naming png sequence with specific frame numbers from After Effects

I am currently using Media Encoder 7.2.2.29 and After Effects version 12.2.1, and I am running it on Mac OSX 10.8.2

I am making an animated sequence in After Effects that after exporting I caught a few things I want to change throughout the piece.  I had rendered it out as a PNG sequence, so I would like to only replace the frames that need fixing.  How can I control the naming convention of the PNG files from Adobe Media Encoder?  Say I wanted to render frames 1 - 200, 370 - 400, and 500-600, how could I set up each sequence so it would keep the exact frame number from the composition in its name?  Right now I am just keeping track of which beginning and end frames I am using and will use Bridge to batch rename, but I would love to know if there is a way to set this up in the render.

Thanks!

I keep getting a pop up saying that my adobe media encoder is not installed, even though I have it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, though this keeps appearing. If anyone could let me know how to fix this that would be amazing!

Hello everyone, i need to finish important project for my business and my media encoder is preventing me to do so.

Here is the detailed problem, i have recorded 1920x1080 60 fps footage, converted it to 1920x1080 30 fps and applied couple of effects to it.

When i try to render the footage the render crashes right about 20% of render and the message i get is this: "interrupted by user" but i haven't touched my PC during rendering, i also closed all the programs besdes Media Encoder.

- Source File: C:\Users\Marko\Desktop\Pixel .aep

- Output File: C:\Users\Marko\Desktop\saved_1.mp4

- Preset Used: 1080 * 30

- Video: 1920x1080 (1.0), 30 fps, Progressive, 00:00:27:25

- Audio: AAC, 320 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo

- Bitrate: CBR, Target 15.00 Mbps

- Encoding Time: 00:00:44

03/25/2018 01:11:29 PM : Encoding Failed

The Operation was interrupted by user

- Encoding Time: 00:03:36

03/25/2018 01:18:28 PM : Encoding Failed

Export Error

Error compiling movie.

Unknown error.

What i tried to fix it but none of it worked:

Clearing cache

Changing the location of both cache files to larger space on HDD

Clearing C Drive

Changing Renderer from CUDA to Software only

Increasing RAM usage allowed for media encoder

Changing frame rate from 30 to 24 as well as reducing the bitrate from 15 to 12

Restarting media encoder.

PC Specs:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-7700K, 4.2GHz

GPU: Asus GTX 1060 3GB

RAM: 16GB G Skill Ripjaws 3000MHz

SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2

HDD: 1TB

My render settings should be okay since i used them previously and had no problems but i will attach pictures just in case there is a trick that i do not know about.

This is getting frustrating for me since there is nothing i can do about it to fix it and i need my render to be done by tomorrow for school project, please help me.

Media Encoder CC 2017 Not rendering Lumetri effects

Mac OS 10.11.6

Mac Pro 2009 2.7Ghz 8 core

20GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 3072 MB

So apparently, AME had the same problem in the 2015 version, it was fixed an now it's back.

If I add a Lumetri Color effect to a clip or adjustment layer and queue the timeline to Media encoder, no color effects are render when exporting to AME, only straight from Premiere. Please Adobe, fix it. It was fixed before fix it again.

Is there any way to force Adobe Media encoder’s  *.m2v format video bitrate setting lower than 1.5? I want to experiment with getting more video on a DVD. I am using Media Encoder CC 2018, but if I need to use another version I can. Thanks

Media Encoder uses over 300% of CPU

When I'm encoding video files the Media Encoder app uses over 300% of the CPU according to my task window.

Therefore my Macbook becomes slow, heats up and eventually crashes.

Is there any way to limit the percentage of CPU Media Encoder can use?

Horizontal scratch lines flashing on video after export

$

I've been having an Media Encoder and Premiere issue where every few exports, small scratch-like glitch lines flash on the final video output (they don't appear on the timeline, but I can see them in the preview during export and in the final file). They come on and off throughout the video (see image below).

I'm working on a Mac (Os X El Capitan 10.11.16) using 4k footage on a 1080 sequence, exporting 1080p. Exports are H.264 and the glitches occur both with "Match Source - High Bitrate" and "YouTube 1080p". Both Premiere and Media Encoder are up to date version wise.

Is there a solution to this other than crossing my fingers?
